Ambika was a queen in Hindu mythology, appearing in the epic Mahabharata. She was the daughter of the king of Kashi and the wife of King Vichitravirya of Hastinapura. Ambika was chosen by King Vichitravirya's father, King Shantanu, to be his son's wife, along with her sister Ambalika.
Later, Ambika and Ambalika were asked to produce children for King Vichitravirya who was childless and ill. Ambika chose to have a son through King Vichitravirya himself, while her sister chose to have a son through a sage named Vyasa. Ambika's son was named Dhritarashtra, who was born blind and was the father of the hundred Kauravas who fought against the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra War.
Ambika played a significant role in the Kuru dynasty and the Kurukshetra War, as the mother of one of the key players in the conflict. Despite her son's actions, Ambika was a respected queen and is remembered for her role in Hindu mythology.
