Lord Shiva, to save the universe, drank the poison and held it in his throat, which turned blue, and he became known as Neelkanth.
The festival of Maha Shivratri is celebrated in different ways across India. Devotees of Lord Shiva visit temples to offer prayers, perform a special puja, and fast as a form of devotion to the deity. It is believed that by fasting and praying to Lord Shiva on this day, devotees can attain his blessings and overcome their problems and obstacles in life. The festival is also marked by the chanting of hymns and devotional songs, the lighting of lamps, and the offering of fruits, flowers, and milk to Lord Shiva.
