As we told you in the previous article, which vegetables can grow in your garden in the month of January? We will try to provide this information to you every month, so that it may help you to grow vegetables according to the season in your kitchen garden. February is very pleasant and the last month of winter. It is very favorable for growing all kinds of vegetables. There are hardly any vegetables that you cannot grow in February.
Tomato, Coriander, Pea, Brinjal, Spinach, Carrot, Cauliflower, Capsicum, Cucumber, Guarfali, Beetroot, Turnip, Tinda, Melon, Pumpkin, Broccoli, Bhindi, Bitter Gourd, Bottle Gourd, Torai, Petha, etc. you can grow all the vegetables in your garden.
However, if you do terrace gardening and have less space, then you have to choose among these vegetables carefully, especially if you grow vegetables in PVC pipes. Here, you can choose vegetables like tomato, brinjal, Barbati, okra, and capsicum. These vegetables can be grown easily in PVC Pipes.
1. Preparation of Soil
Soil preparation is the first and foremost process for growing any kind of vegetable. Many people take soil preparation carelessly, and this is one of the major reasons why they face failure in growing vegetables.
The soil should generally be friable. The easiest way to identify the soil, is its looseness. Many times there is yellow soil in your garden, which becomes hard as soon as the water goes away.
In a separate article about the soil, we will tell you in detail. For the time being, you should understand how to prepare the soil, whatever is available.
Generally, half soil and half old cow dung manure can be mixed. But if you want to prepare a little better soil, then after half the soil add 30% old cow dung manure or vermicompost, 3% bone meal powder, 3% stone dust powder, 2% neem cake, around 2% mustard cake, and 10% cocopeat.
The amount in percentage is given so that you have an idea. There may be a little too much up and down, but you can consider this a good ratio for gardening soil. Now mix all these and leave them in the sun and air for some time. Your soil is now ready for planting vegetables in the month of February.
2. Prepare Seedlings for February Month
If you want to do gardening, you have to understand the process of preparing vegetable seedlings also. You can get a plant or two from a nursery, but when you have to do continuous gardening, it can be very costly. In such a situation, if you prepare vegetable saplings in your garden, it will be valuable for you.
After soil preparation, start the process of preparing plants through hybrid seeds in February. On the seeds, we will give information in a separate article. This is really important because every plant has its own characteristics. Like, some need to be soaked in water for 48 hours, some for 24 hours, and some for 6 hours only!
For time being, you should start with prior knowledge, or can take the help of google or you can ask us for a particular seedling process, in our Whatsapp Group.
In February, you should keep the backup of plant preparation with you. Many times when you sow the seed, for some reason it just does not germinate. In such a situation, you have to keep backup and keep trying. In this condition, you may have to repeat this process more than once.
3. Avoid Overwatering for Plants in February Month
As mentioned above, many times the plant is not ready in one attempt. Now you will ask why it doesn't grow on the first attempt. One of the biggest reasons is overwatering! Due to excessive watering, many times the seeds rot, and sometimes diseases arise in their roots, especially in February when the weather is changing.
Let us tell you a common identification of this, if the soil of the pot in which you grow plants sticks to your hand when you touch it, do not pour water. We have tried this many times at Veg Roof. If the soil does not stick to your hand when you touch it, especially its upper layer, then you can add water.
Keep in mind that the upper layer should not stick to your hand at all, while there can be some moisture in lower one. In such a situation, you can pour a little water on the upper layer of the soil.
Keep in mind that only prepared soil is sufficient for seedlings, you do not need any additional organic fertilizer, etc. But, if you replant it in another pot or PVC pipe, you should use any organic fertilizer only after 10 to 12 days, before that it has no meaning.
On the other hand, if we talk about pesticides, then you do not face this problem in February, but as the summer starts increasing, the problem of pesticides arises, especially in the rainy season. So in February, you don't have to worry too much.
